“Die with yours” - thoughts on The Fantastic Four: First Steps

| “It’s a blessing: Die with yours.”
This phrase uttered by the Silver Surfer - first in her native language, then in English - ends up being the lynchpin which saves the world.
Shalla-Bal (AKA Silver Surfer) was from a planet threatened with annihilation by a world eating god of sorts, Galactus. In order to save her world, she gave her life in service to Galactus becoming his herald of destruction to other worlds.
“Die with yours” reveals the ache of her heart: she would have rather had the blessing of dying with her community than saving them to become the herald of destruction for millions of others. It would have been better to die than to kill.
| Her blessing reveals a deep reality: every person longs to be loved to and through death.
Inhora exists to give this blessing to every person - “die with yours.” We sometimes become the only “yours” - the only family - of our guests. Like Jacob (who came from the streets to the hospital to Inhora) who had no loved ones to speak of: he died in our home this morning surrounded by the love of three of our team.
At Inhora, strangers can become a closest kin. Here, strangers become family. And our mission continues with 29 guests cared for to date. We gave them the blessing to “die with theirs.”
And we also pray that this blessing will be yours when your time comes. That every community would have a home like ours where no one dies without a family - without a “yours.”
We envision a world where everyone will have this blessing. A home for every person at the hour of death.
